A New Method to Improve NDN Forwarding Packets Using SDN

Abstract :

In recent years, advancements in information and communication technology have led to the development of Named Data Networking (NDN) and Software-Defined Networking (SDN). NDN simplifies data dissemination with features like name-based delivery and in-network caching, while SDN allows for centralized programming and management of network components. Integrating NDN with SDN creates an intelligent, flexible network that enhances communication quality, forwarding decisions, and resource management. This paper proposes a method to improve NDN routing. It examines the role of the Forwarding Information Base (FIB) and the number of active entries in NDN nodes concerning content retrieval delay. Then, by integrating NDN with SDN, the centralized control plane of SDN is used to improve routing decisions. By monitoring the load of active entries in the FIB table in NDN nodes and directing packets through optimal paths, the study investigates methods to reduce content retrieval delay and increase the number of data packets entering nodes. Simulations using the ndnSIM simulator show that the proposed scheme reduces delay and increases content retrieval efficiency.
