Abstract :
In this study, we investigate the performance of Direct Current biased Optical Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (DCO-OFDM) in Vehicular Visible Light Communication (VVLC) systems by integrating an Amplify-and-Forward (AF) relay node. To model the path loss in the VVLC channel, we employ the Generalized Extreme Value (GEV) distribution. We evaluate the Bit Error Rate (BER) under various conditions, including scenarios with and without the AF relay node, as well as different half-power angles of radiation. Considering Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM), results for low traffic scenario and modulation order of 16, show that a target BER of 10-3 can be achieved with and without AF relay node at a bit energy-to-noise ratio (Eb/N0) of 15 dB and 16.5 dB, respectively. The results demonstrate that the AF relay node significantly enhances the system's performance, particularly in reducing BER, which is crucial for ensuring reliable communication in vehicular environments.
