Abstract :
Three single line linearly polarized planar leaky wave (LW) spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SSPP) Ku-band satellite reception antennas with circular, square and rectangular radiating patches are presented and compared. A novel method for feeding patches with an open-ended standing wave (SW) SSPP waveguide is also used. All three antennas are simulated by CST Studio commercial software, and the best patch type is selected by comparison of the results. SSPP-LW planar KU-band antennas are finding wide applications in 5G, 6G, existing Geo-stationary (GSO) satellites and emerging non-geostationary (NGSO) satellite constellations communications. The high gain needed for most of these applications in practice, dictates utilization of an array of several branches of antennas, resulting few hundreds of patches. Therefore, any improvements due to optimized selection of patch type studied in this letter, has significant importance in the overall antenna performance. Moreover, the optimized structure is a wise selection for the main building block of large high gain planar LW-SSPP antenna arrays.
