Public Safety Assessment of Radio Frequency Electromagnetic Exposure

Abstract :

With the rapid growth of wireless communication systems, the public concerns about possible health effects of exposure to electromagnetic radiations are increased. This paper investigates the results of measured exposure levels of radio frequency (RF) emission in the rural areas. The sources of emission include all RF emitters from broadcasting stations to cellular base stations. The power density measurements were conducted during 1 year at 680 locations distributed over major cities. The results were compared with the relevant guideline for non-ionizing radiation given in Iran national standard no. 8567, to confirm that the measured radiation exposure levels are satisfactorily below defined limits.
